Enforcing deposit limits

Most states (and some cities) set security deposit limits that restrict how much security you can collect for a lease. These limits can differ by a renter's age, # of years they've been a tenant, and lease duration.

Whale allows properties to set both standard and conditional deposit amounts — either as a multiple of monthly rent or as a fixed dollar value. Behind the scenes, Whale continuously tracks state and municipal security deposit limits across the country to prevent the collection of deposits that would exceed the legal limit.
